what about the roots of a saguaro?
Saguaro Roots Spiritual Direction gets its name from the majestic saguaro cacti of the Arizona Sonoran Desert. Saguaros have an intricate root system. A single taproot grows straight down about five feet to access water that’s stored deep underground. A saguaro’s main roots, however, extend like a maze about three inches under the surface to easily collect rainwater.
Saguaros grow very slowly.
The saguaro’s taproot reminds us to reach inward, to drink from the hidden well of love, wisdom, and mystery. From this deep nourishment, our arms extend outward to embrace others. Like the saguaro’s patient rise, transformation of the soul is slow—yet as we lean into its rhythm, we find ourselves drawn into the journey with that which is beyond us.
saguaro roots’ vision
To nurture the sacred in all people by honoring the many ways Spirit moves across traditions, cultures, and personal journeys. I envision a world where spiritual direction is a sanctuary for seekers of every path - religious, interspiritual, or none - offering presence and deep listening that is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and the universal longing for connection, meaning, and transformation.
Saguaro Roots offers itself as an inclusive entity, without regard to age, race, ethnicity, or national origin, physical, mental, or emotional disability, marital status, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, political affiliation, or immigration status.
confidentiality
Spiritual directors are ethically bound to confidentiality. It is important that clients feel safe. Strict confidentiality ensures that directees are able to share their deepest feelings and most important life experiences. There are, however, some important exceptions to keep in mind.
As a mandatory reporter, Jen is required by law to report any and all suspected child abuse, dependent adult ,or elder abuse. Under AZ law, Jen is required to notify the appropriate authorities immediately if and when they suspect a minor, dependent or elder is being abused.
If a directee is threatening serious bodily harm to another person(s), Jen must notify the police, as well as the intended victim.
If a client admits to having plans of, and is in danger of, committing suicide, Jen will make every effort to get that client to safety.
code of ethics
Jen’s code of ethics as a spiritual director requires that they work periodically with an experienced spiritual direction supervisor who will help them become a better spiritual director. In supervision, Jen does not share any names or specific identifying characteristics with their director.
Some general content from a session may be shared so that Jen may learn more about themself and grow as a spiritual director. The content in the case studies they present to their supervisor is kept in the vein of confidentiality.
Clients, however, are not bound by any code of confidentiality. They are free to share anything from their sessions with another person.
Jen receives supervision on a monthly basis.
